This guide introduces different variants of the access panel and will help you decide which one is best for you.
Frame
The most popular access panel is called the photo frame. These panels can be installed into existing walls or ceilings. The "picture frame" reference comes from the 25mm frame around the door, which rests against the finished wall or ceiling. These panels are the easiest to install and provide an easily accessible solution. They are available in metal and plastic.
Metal door beaded frame
The beaded frame panel has a "beaded" edge to provide an area where the plasterer can glue plaster to the edge of the door to form an access panel with a hidden frame and metal door, you will not see any frame.
Gypsum board door and beaded frame
Gypsum board door beaded frame panels make the panels as invisible as possible, and gypsum board doors (as opposed to metal doors) allow plastering on the door and frame, so you can paint on the door and not see the frame.
Plastic channel
Plastic access panels provide an inexpensive and simple way to enter the wall voids. The flush plastic door has a 25 mm frame surround and is designed to be sealed directly in a clear structural opening (5 mm larger than the listed panel size). A simple pin hinge allows the door to be easily removed, and the panel can be opened with a flat-head screwdriver.
Dimensions
Our panel size is measured from the back of the frame; we recommend that you increase the hole size (structural opening) by 5 mm, so a 600x600 mm panel needs to have a hole size of 605x605 mm.
